Rhino Resources has struck gold in Namibia’s Orange Basin, with the Volans-1X exploration well recording excellent petrophysical properties and notably, no observed water contact. The well, part of Petroleum Exploration License 85 operated by Rhino Resources with a 42.5% working interest, was drilled using Northern Ocean’s semi-submersible Deepsea Mira to a total depth of 4,497.5 meters TVDSS.

The well penetrated the Upper Cretaceous target and encountered 26 meters of net pay in rich gas condensate-bearing reservoirs. Initial laboratory analysis of two samples indicated an impressive high condensate-to-gas ratio exceeding 140 barrels per million standard cubic feet with liquid density of approximately 40 degrees API gravity. Co-venturers in the project include Azule Energy at 42.5%, NAMCOR at 10%, and Korres Investments at 5%. This marks the third significant hydrocarbon discovery in 2025 for Azule Energy partners, following the Capricornus-1X light oil find in Namibia and the Gajajeira-01 gas discovery in Angola.
