Morocco has commissioned a new large-scale solar power park in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region, further strengthening its renewable energy infrastructure as part of the country’s national energy strategy, which aims to lift renewables to over 52% of total installed electricity generation capacity by 2030.
The facility, which uses advanced photovoltaic technology, is expected to meet growing electricity demand in the southern provinces while reducing Morocco’s reliance on imported fossil fuels and lowering its overall carbon footprint.
The expansion reinforces Morocco’s established leadership in renewable energy development on the continent and globally, supporting greater energy independence and economic resilience while attracting further green investment. Morocco’s continued progress is widely viewed as a blueprint for other African nations on the benefits of long-term strategic planning and consistent policy support in scaling up renewable energy.
