The National Oil Corporation has commenced the implementation phase of a significant gas compression unit project at the offshore Bahr Essalam field, with a processing capacity of up to 100 million cubic feet of raw gas per day.

The NOC confirmed the successful installation of the new compression unit on the Sabratha offshore platform, marking the beginning of the project’s operational phase. The initiative aims to maintain current production levels, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure the sustainability of gas supplies to both domestic and export markets.

The project is being implemented according to the highest international standards of quality and safety as part of Libya’s strategic plan to strengthen its energy production capacity and develop infrastructure in the vital sector. Mellitah Oil & Gas Company is responsible for the technical execution of the project.

Bahr Essalam ranks among Libya’s most significant gas fields, playing a major role in supplying the domestic market with energy while also feeding the Greenstream pipeline that connects Libya to Italy through the Mellitah coast and the Strait of Sicily.
