The Modern Drilling Company (MDC), a leading player in the Egyptian petroleum sector, has received the 2025 Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Protection (HSE) Partnership Award from Kuwait’s Wafra Joint Operations (WJO) and its partner US energy giant Chevron. The award recognizes MDC’s exemplary compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards during its operations in Kuwait.
MDC, which began operating in Kuwait in 2020, currently deploys the largest drilling fleet in the country. The company operates nine rigs for WJO in the Wafra field and two additional rigs for Kuwait Oil Company (KOC), demonstrating its significant footprint in Kuwait’s petroleum sector.
The company’s Kuwaiti branch employs more than 500 Egyptian workers and engineers, bolstering MDC’s regional expansion strategy and supporting petroleum sector projects in line with international standards. The award reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining the highest operational standards across its international operations.
Established in 2005 as a joint venture between Tharwa Petroleum Company, a subsidiary of the Egyptian General Petroleum Company (EGPC), and Sinopec Star Petroleum Company of China, MDC has maintained a long-standing commitment to delivering top-tier drilling services. The company focuses on safety, quality, and environmental stewardship across the oil and gas sector, principles that have enabled it to expand its operations beyond Egypt into regional markets.
