Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC) has set a target to refine 4.2 million tons (mmt) of crude oil during fiscal year 2026/27, Chairman Issa Alaq announced at the company’s general assembly, which was attended by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi.

The upcoming investment plan centres on capacity expansion, with plans for a new atmospheric distillation unit and a gas recovery unit for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production. In a sustainability push, ASORC also plans to install a 10-megawatt (MW) solar power plant and upgrade its digital control and storage systems. During the first half of FY 2025/26, ASORC successfully covered 100% of Upper Egypt’s gasoline requirements. The company also recorded savings of 2,700 tons of mazut by using hydrogen as an alternative fuel for boilers and furnaces.

Minister Badawi stressed that expansion projects in Upper Egypt are vital for reducing the country’s petroleum product import bill and called for continuous quality monitoring to ensure all outputs meet standard domestic consumption specifications.
