Egypt Reduces Industrial Gas Distribution Due to Supply Constraints
Egypt has activated emergency protocols and temporarily halted natural gas supplies to industrial facilities. The government swiftly implemented contingency measures, prioritizing gas allocations and forcing power plants to maximize diesel consumption to maintain electricity generation.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi personally oversaw operations from the national gas network control center in New Cairo as authorities worked to restore normal supply levels. The crisis response demonstrated Egypt’s vulnerability to regional conflicts despite recent production gains, including 60 million cubic feet per day from the newly operational Zohr-6 well.
The Ministry has since gradually resumed gas pumping to affected industrial sectors while accelerating efforts to connect three regasification units at Ain Sokhna ports. This emergency highlights Egypt’s urgent need to diversify energy sources and strengthen domestic production capabilities.
