The Democratic Republic of Congo has awarded a contract for the construction of a new 3-megawatt solar power plant in Nioki Centre, which upon completion is projected to become the largest solar plant in the region — a significant advancement for renewable energy infrastructure in Central Africa.
The project’s primary objectives are to substantially improve electricity access for local communities in Nioki Centre, stimulate local economic activity, and reduce the region’s reliance on conventional energy sources. The development represents a concrete step toward expanding the country’s renewable energy capacity, particularly in underserved areas where reliable electricity access has long been a persistent challenge.
