Angola will receive at least 6 billion dollars in investment from the Canadian international group Ivanhoe Mines by the end of this year in diamond exploration, to be implemented in three areas of the country, said last week in the Province of Luanda, the company’s CEO, Ms Marna Cloete.
According to her, who was speaking on the sidelines of the 2nd International Conference and Exhibition on the Mining Sector, taking place from the 23rd to the 24th of this month, Angola is a copper potential that has the same seismological elements as the third largest copper reserve in the world, which is the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
She explained that her group is committed to exploring this mining area over a three-year period, adding that to this end, the first step to be taken by the group would be to open an office in Angola to carry out geological studies, and then move on to exploration.
Marna Coethe revealed that Angola, Zambia and the DRC are part of the same geological formation, stressing that copper is one of the fundamental metals for the energy transition process.
The official, who is also a registered Chartered Accountant, added that the profits from the exploitation will benefit the companies and the communities where the mineral will be exploited, thus resulting in the hiring of young people.
The conference – held under the slogan “Mineral Resources, Development, Sustainability and Challenges” – brings together representatives from seven countries and features a list of 60 speakers sharing knowledge and information on current and future trends in the mining industry, with the participation of 600 technicians.
Topics such as “Angola’s Vision for the Sustainable Development of Mineral Resources”, a session that will reveal Angola’s stance on the development of mineral resources and its dedication to revitalising the mining sector, with the aim of promoting stability and transparency to stimulate confidence in international investors, are part of the debates.
Another topic to be addressed is the “Current state of mining in Angola”, which will feature the views of the co-President and Director of Lipari Diamond Mines Ltd, Luiz Bizzi and the general manager of the exploring company Minbos Resources Limited and HM Granitos, Asareh Monsoori.
Meanwhile, investors and speakers from the Angolan mining industry will take part in a series of different mining sessions with the aim of debating strategic projects for development, partnerships and investment opportunities in Angola that promote innovation and sustainable practices in the mining industry.
