Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR and Zimbabwe’s National Assembly have held talks in Baku on expanding cooperation across the energy sector, in a meeting between SOCAR president Rovshan Najaf and Zimbabwean National Assembly Speaker Jacob Mudenda.

Discussions covered Azerbaijan’s energy strategy and its push to attract foreign investment through political stability and a favourable business climate. Mudenda was briefed on SOCAR’s evolution from a national oil company into a diversified international energy enterprise, along with its green energy agenda and renewable projects developed with international partners.

The talks also touched on SOCAR’s growing investment in digital transformation, including data centres and artificial intelligence, with officials noting that three of the company’s facilities have earned Digital Lighthouse recognition from the World Economic Forum. Both sides agreed to keep exploring opportunities for broader cooperation.
