Funding targets fiscal reform, clean energy, and electricity access

The African Development Bank Group has approved more than $41 million in grants to support economic reforms and energy access in São Tomé and Príncipe and Somalia.

In São Tomé, the funding will support fiscal sustainability measures, renewable energy integration, and climate-resilient agriculture and fisheries projects. In Somalia, the focus is on expanding electricity access in Bosaso through solar power generation, grid extensions, and solar home systems, including for displaced communities.

The projects are expected to lower energy costs, reduce dependence on diesel generation, and strengthen institutional capacity in both countries.
