Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi held talks with Jordan’s Energy Minister Saleh Kharabsheh in Amman aimed at strengthening cooperation in energy, natural gas and mining, while exploring new partnerships in phosphate, green hydrogen and infrastructure.

The discussions covered expanding Egyptian companies’ role in Jordan’s energy and infrastructure sectors, building on the track record of joint venture Fajr Jordan Egyptian along with Petrojet, ENPPI and Gas Misr, while also exploring cooperation in ammonia and green hydrogen production. Kharabsheh said Jordan plans to expand natural gas supply to industrial cities, with agreements expected soon with two Egyptian petroleum companies to roll out gas distribution projects in Ma’an and Al Muwaqqar.

On mining, both sides discussed developing phosphate-based industries and mineral value chains, aiming to maximise the value of natural resources in both countries. The talks concluded with an agreement to set up joint technical working groups to follow up on the proposals across gas, mining, infrastructure and investment partnerships — building on more than two decades of energy cooperation between the two countries through the Arab Gas Pipeline.
