Zambia has signed a power purchase agreement for a major 500-megawatt solar park, backed by a South Korean investor in a notable international collaboration for the country’s energy sector. The agreement marks a crucial step forward in Zambia’s effort to diversify its energy mix and increase renewable generation capacity.

The solar park is expected to contribute substantially to Zambia’s national grid, enhancing energy security and providing a cleaner, more sustainable source of electricity as the country looks to reduce its reliance on fossil fuels and address growing energy demand.

The deal underscores Zambia’s rising appeal as an investment destination for renewable energy projects, particularly with the involvement of international investors, and highlights growing global confidence in Africa’s renewable energy potential and the commercial viability of large-scale projects on the continent. The development is expected to create jobs, foster technology transfer, and support Zambia’s broader economic development goals.
