Renewable energy provider Scatec and Aeolus, part of the Toyota Tsusho Group, have announced that the 60 MW Sidi Bouzid solar power plant in Tunisia has reached commercial operations, with retroactive effect from January 1, 2026. The project will generate predictable revenues under a 30-year power purchase agreement with Tunisian state utility Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).

The achievement marks the first Scatec-developed project to reach commercial operations in Tunisia, representing a key milestone in the company’s expansion across North Africa. Scatec CEO Terje Pilskog described the development as proof of the company’s ability to scale in new geographies through competitive tenders, trusted partnerships, and its integrated business model.

A parallel 60 MW Tozeur solar power plant, built alongside Sidi Bouzid, is continuing to progress toward commercial operations and is expected to come online in the first half of 2026. Together, the two plants are expected to produce approximately 288 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to an estimated abatement of more than 115,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

The projects were awarded through a government tender process and form part of Tunisia’s broader strategy to decarbonise its power sector and strengthen energy security. Scatec owns 51% of both projects, with Aeolus holding the remaining 49%. Scatec will provide operations and maintenance as well as asset management services for both facilities.
