Angola and Namibia held a high-level meeting to review the implementation of bilateral energy cooperation projects, with a particular focus on the Angola-Namibia electricity interconnection and the development of a power purchase agreement to govern future electricity trade between the two nations.

The discussions took place between Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and Namibia’s newly appointed Minister of Industries, Mines, and Energy, Modestus Tshitumbe Amutse — with Angola’s Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, also in attendance. The interconnection project aims to link the electrical systems of both countries, marking an important step toward regional energy integration and ensuring a secure and reliable energy supply.

The parties also discussed the Baynes Binational Hydroelectric Project, a strategic initiative designed to enhance energy cooperation and utilise the hydropower potential of the Cunene River, which forms part of the border between the two countries. The meeting, held at the headquarters of Angola’s Ministry of Energy and Water, reinforced both nations’ commitment to collaborative energy development and regional integration.
