Independent oil and gas company Reconnaissance Energy Africa closed out 2025 with operational momentum across Namibia, Angola, and Gabon, advancing a diversified exploration portfolio that positions the company for multiple milestones in 2026, according to its latest operational update.
In Namibia, ReconAfrica is preparing for a production test at the Kavango West 1X well in the Damara Fold Belt within PEL 73, following completion of its second exploration well in the basin in 2025. The test, expected to commence by the end of the first quarter of 2026, will enable extended flow and pressure analysis to better estimate potential production rates and reserves. Early planning indicates that up to eight reservoir intervals could be tested, underscoring the scale of the opportunity identified to date.
In Angola, ReconAfrica plans to begin initial geochemical sampling of surface oil and gas seeps in the Etosha-Okavango Basin in the first quarter of 2026. These activities follow the signing of an agreement with Angola’s upstream regulator, the National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels, in April 2025, granting access to 5.2 million acres in the basin. Part of the cross-border Damara Fold Belt and Rift Basin, the agreement enables early-stage, low-cost entry into onshore Angola.
Meanwhile, the company has expanded offshore, securing a production sharing contract for the Ngulu Block in shallow waters offshore Gabon. ReconAfrica is advancing technical work on the block, with 3D seismic data expected by the end of December and reprocessing scheduled to begin in January 2026. A third-party resource report is planned following seismic evaluation to support further de-risking of the asset.
“We have had an active and productive 2025 in which we advanced the company on multiple strategic fronts. These actions set the company up for several important milestones in 2026,” stated Brian Reinsborough, President and CEO of ReconAfrica.
