Chevron Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining top-tier deepwater and gas production capacity in Nigeria despite facing operational constraints, underscoring the multinational energy company’s long-term confidence in Africa’s largest oil producer. The statement came during a strategic high-level visit by the Executive Vice President Upstream of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to Chevron’s Escravos operations base.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Chevron’s Executive Leadership Team, led by Segun Kuteyi, Director of Operations and Chief Operating Officer, and Michelle Pflueger, Director of Asset Development and Chief Asset Development Officer, received NNPCL EVP Udobong Ntia and his delegation at the strategically important facility in Delta State.

Kuteyi expressed appreciation for the visit while highlighting Chevron’s impressive six-decade heritage as a key investor and one of the largest oil and gas producers in Nigeria. “Our business spans exploration, production, gas development, and deepwater operations, including the Agbami Field, one of Nigeria’s largest deepwater discoveries. At the core of our business is the Chevron Way, which outlines our core beliefs, values, and purpose: delivering affordable, reliable, and ever cleaner energy, promoting human ingenuity to solve energy challenges, and operating with trust, integrity, and accountability,” Kuteyi noted.

During the visit, the EVP received detailed briefings on Chevron’s integrated operations, which include conventional assets both onshore and offshore, the Escravos Gas Plant, and the Escravos Gas-to-Liquids facility, one of only five such plants globally. The comprehensive presentation covered major accomplishments, business planning, production forecasts, operational challenges facing the company, and Chevron’s innovative approaches to asset integrity and cost management in a challenging operating environment.

The EVP commended Chevron’s successful partnership with local communities, which has enabled the company to sustain its social licence to operate in regions where other international operators have exited due to operational and security challenges. He praised Chevron’s innovative use of technology, particularly the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for asset monitoring and surveillance, and encouraged continued collaboration among industry stakeholders to address common challenges facing the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

Kuteyi emphasized Chevron’s strong alignment with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, which aims to position gas as a transition fuel and driver of industrialization. “We are proud to be aligned with the Federal Government’s Decade of Gas initiative, and we continue to invest in cleaner energy solutions, reduce routine gas flaring, and build a profitable gas business. Today, 99.9 percent of our fabrication work is done in-country, reflecting our belief in investing not just in oil and gas, but in people, partnerships, and the future of Nigeria,” he remarked.

The visit included a comprehensive tour of the Integrated Operations Centre, the Tank Farm, and the Escravos Gas Plant facilities, giving the NNPCL delegation firsthand insight into Chevron’s operations and future plans. The engagement concluded on a positive note, reinforcing Chevron’s commitment to unlocking Nigeria’s energy potential and delivering lasting value to the Nigerian people through sustained investment and partnership.
