Sen. Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau North), has charged the Police and the Special Task Force (STF) in charge of security in Plateau to “do more” to secure the lives of residents of the north-central state.
Gyang, Deputy Chairman, Senate Committee on Defense, made the call while reacting to the killing of 10 people in Bassa Local Government Area, by bandits.
He spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Protocol, Mr Musa Ashoms.
“It is saddening that the killings have continued even while the world is uniting to fight the greater scourge of Coronavirus.
“While all nations, Nigeria inclusive, are battling to overcome the plague of Coronavirus, killer bandits are still attacking helpless communities in Plateau North Senatorial District.
“For two days – Tuesday and Wednesday, March 31 and April 1 – killer bandits attacked and killed 10 persons at Hukke and Borough villages of Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area.
“It is necessary for the Police and the STF to rise up to their primary responsibility of securing lives of citizens, both in the cities and rural areas.
“The lives of rural dwellers matter as much as those in urban areas,” he said.
He appealed to residents of Plateau North to ”condemn and reject this latest attempt by killer bandits to disrupt the peace that the people have collectively resolved to build and strengthen”. (NAN)
