The Italian business sector intends to invest and create partnerships in Mozambique through four companies that have an annual production valued at more than 5 billion dollars, according to a statement released last week by the Agência de Informação de Moçambique (AIM).

They are Fincantieri, which specialises in building large ships; Leonardo, a high-tech industrial group working in the areas of defence, aerospace, security, automation, transport and energy; Saipem, an Italian multinational providing services linked to hydrocarbon exploration; and Maire Tecnimont, an engineering company linked to renewable energies.

As a way of formalising the entry of these companies into the country, the Italian ambassador to Mozambique, Gianni Bardini, launched the Mozambique-Italy Business Forum in Maputo on Friday (17).

‘We’re going to have four large companies that are some of the main pillars of the Italian economy – Fincantieri, Leonardo, Saipem and Maire Tecnimont. The latter is still not very well known,’ revealed the Italian ambassador.

For his part, the president of the Mozambican-Italian Chamber of Commerce (CCMI), Simone Santi, said that the aim of the forum was to lay the foundations for stronger relations between Italian and Mozambican companies.

In addition to the four companies that are already ready to collaborate with Mozambique, 30 more Italian companies will have the opportunity to find sub-suppliers, partners and local agents to be represented by or to work with.

‘This is the continuation of an activity carried out in October last year in Italy, on a mission with around 40 Mozambican companies with the main aim of creating partnerships,’ said Santi.

The forum will bring together renowned Italian companies in the areas of shipbuilding, technology, oil & gas, power generation and renewable energy, food production, logistics and infrastructure.

According to the CCMI, around 200 companies will be present at the forum, and ‘the national business community is therefore invited to take part and present itself in the best possible light at the event’.
