In a major geopolitical energy shift, the United States has signaled strong interest in financially backing the ambitious Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline, potentially injecting billions into what will become the world’s longest onshore gas pipeline.

The groundbreaking announcement came Friday from Nigeria’s Finance Minister Wale Edun following high-level discussions between Nigeria’s Central Bank Governor and US State Department officials.

The mammoth $25 billion infrastructure project will stretch 5,660 kilometers, connecting Nigeria to Morocco through thirteen West African nations, creating a strategic energy corridor linking Africa directly to European markets.

“This represents a transformative development for energy security across both continents,” said Minister Edun. “The pipeline will benefit approximately 34 million people along Africa’s Atlantic Coast while providing Europe with a critical alternative energy source.”

The pipeline will traverse Mauritania, Senegal, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea-Conakry, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo and Benin, fundamentally reshaping the region’s energy landscape.
