Tanzania has launched a bold 25-year strategic vision for its energy sector, with aggressive oil and natural gas exploration at its core. The Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) unveiled the comprehensive plan in the capital city of Dodoma, signaling the nation’s determination to become an energy powerhouse in East Africa.
Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Dr. Dotto Biteko has directed TPDC to fast-track development of key exploration blocks including Mnazi Bay North, Eyasi Wembere, Songo Songo West, and the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) processing project to ensure reliable energy supplies for both domestic consumption and lucrative international markets.
“As we launch this 25-year Strategic Plan, it’s important to recognize TPDC’s core responsibility of ensuring energy availability across the country. The oil and gas sub-sector plays a significant role in the development of our nation,” Dr. Biteko declared during the official launch ceremony.
The plan outlines TPDC’s long-term vision and objectives designed to maximize Tanzania’s benefits from its substantial oil and gas resources. Dr. Biteko has ordered increased investment in pipeline infrastructure and gas distribution systems, particularly through cutting-edge technologies like Mini-LNG and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) to expand service to citizens beyond the main Mtwara-Dar es Salaam pipeline corridor.
The strategic initiative aligns with Tanzania’s National Development Vision 2050 and aims to position the energy sector as a key driver of industrial growth, infrastructure development, and technological innovation while creating jobs and generating government revenue.
