Tanzania Launches Nationwide Clean Cooking Energy Campaign to Transform Rural Communities
The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) has intensified its public education initiatives across Tanzania’s central regions, promoting clean cooking energy adoption as part of the National Clean Cooking Energy Strategy implementation.
EWURA Central Zone Manager Hawa Lwemo spearheaded comprehensive awareness campaigns in Singida and Iringa regions from May 27-29, 2025, utilizing diverse communication channels including radio programs, specialized seminars for food vendors, motorcycle taxi operators, and liquefied petroleum gas distributors.
The initiative aims to ensure cooking gas users maintain proper safety, health, and environmental protection standards while ensuring licensed service providers comply with regulatory requirements. EWURA has positioned itself at the forefront of educating communities about clean cooking energy benefits, particularly emphasizing reduced health risks associated with traditional firewood and charcoal smoke exposure, alongside environmental protection through deforestation prevention.
These campaigns represent critical components of national efforts to scale clean energy usage across Tanzania, improving citizens’ quality of life while safeguarding environmental resources for current and future generations.
