Renetech Renewable Energy Technologies, a leading Swedish energy company, has initiated discussions on establishing a biogas plant in Lagos as part of efforts to enhance clean energy solutions in Nigeria.
This development was disclosed in a statement from the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) via its official X (formerly Twitter) account on Friday.
Representatives from Renetech, including Chloe Champlong, David Bauner, and Tom Walsh, met with officials from LASEPA and the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) on Thursday to explore potential biogas projects in the state.
The initiative, currently in its feasibility study phase, is a collaborative effort between Renetech, LAMATA, LASEPA, and other stakeholders. The project aims to align with Lagos State’s objectives of sustainability, safety, and environmental protection.
Key discussion points included overcoming barriers to adopting biogas technology, ensuring long-term environmental and economic benefits, and capacity-building for plant management.
Additionally, stakeholders deliberated on the potential of using biogas as a clean fuel alternative for LAMATA buses and generating electricity to support Lagos’ energy needs.
