Eyewitnesses are now telling Sudans Post that the building serving as the headquarters of the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) has been besieged by members of General Intelligence Service (GIS) and that journalists haven’t been allowed in since dawn yesterday.

This comes after the military dissolved a military, declared a state of emergency in an apparent military coup against the civil components of the transitional sovereign council and the government.

“Since yesterday, SUNA building in Khartoum has been under siege from security forces of the General Intelligence Service and I think this is because of the coup which took place yesterday from Al Burhan,” one eyewitness who refused to be named told Sudans Post’s Nancy Andelrahman in Khartoum

While contacts to the SUNA were unsuccessful, another eyewitness said she could see journalists being turned away by security forces from the building since yesterday signaling that some thing is wrong.

“There are a lot of journalists and employees coming to the building and are being turned away. They don’t want the opposition to use SUNA podium for press conference to criticise the coup,” the eyewitness said.
