IPR Energy Group has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery in Egypt’s Western Desert, further validating the untapped potential of mature fields in the region. The discovery in the Yidma field, located in the Yidma-Alamein concession, encountered a substantial 73-foot oil column beneath a tight stratigraphic barrier within the Alamein Dolomite formation.

Initial production rates have been impressive, with the well yielding 1,926 barrels of oil per day initially before stabilizing at 1,250 barrels daily. The high-quality light oil registers at 43°API with minimal water content (0.5 percent BS&W) through a 64/64-inch choke.

Currently producing under natural flow, output is expected to reach 1,500 barrels per day following the installation of an electric submersible pump. A follow-up well, Yidma-14X, is already under final drilling, targeting the deeper Alam El Bueib formation.

“This new discovery again emphasizes the outstanding exceptional value of the untapped potential of the Yidma-Alamein concession that has been produced for over 60 years and still exhibits sizable value and potential,” an IPR spokesperson stated. The company is now launching a comprehensive exploitation program that includes new development wells, fieldwide waterflood projects, and advanced production enhancement technologies.

IPR holds a 100 percent working interest in the Yidma-Alamein concession, which has seen multiple successful discoveries over the past year. Previous wells in the concession have demonstrated strong production potential, including well AL-52Kh, which achieved stabilized rates of 2,765 barrels of oil per day, and West AY-1X, which added significant new production from previously untapped formations.
