South Korean Daewoo Eyes Major Natural Gas Investment in Mozambique’s Rovuma Basin

Daewoo’s president Won-Ju Jung has expressed strong interest in participating in natural gas project construction within Area 4 of Mozambique’s Rovuma basin, following a meeting with President Daniel Chapo. The South Korean construction multinational is already involved in LNG construction in Area 1 and seeks to expand its presence in the region’s developing gas sector.

Jung outlined ambitious plans extending beyond LNG projects, including development of natural gas-based industries such as fertilizer production and electric power generation. Daewoo also presented proposals for comprehensive infrastructure development, including city construction and diversified tourism facilities across Mozambique.

The interest from Daewoo reflects growing international recognition of Mozambique’s energy potential, particularly in the Rovuma basin where multiple major projects are advancing. The company’s integrated approach combining energy development with broader infrastructure and industrial projects could provide significant value addition to Mozambique’s natural gas resources.
