South African Energy Tech Startup Raises $1.8 Million for AI-Powered Platform Expansion

Open Access Energy has secured $1.8 million in seed financing to accelerate development of its artificial intelligence-driven platform supporting distributed energy developers across South Africa. The funding round, backed by E3 Capital, Equator, and Factor E Ventures, will support product development and customer growth initiatives.

OAE’s platform streamlines operations for decentralized energy providers through automated processes including metering, risk management, and forecasting, while maintaining real-time balance between energy generation and consumption. The technology aims to reduce project development time and costs while enhancing long-term viability for independent power producers.

The investment comes as South Africa continues its energy transition, with private generation playing an increasingly central role in the liberalized energy market. CEO Gerjo Hoffman emphasized that the funding will enable scaling of tools needed by Independent Power Producers and Energy Traders to participate effectively in South Africa’s evolving energy landscape.
