The National Oil Corporation has announced that Sirte Oil Company for Production and Manufacturing of Oil and Gas has successfully restarted its second methanol plant after a shutdown of more than seven years, since 2018. The company explained that the plant’s restart coincided with a rise in crude oil production to approximately 114,000 barrels per day, reflecting a significant improvement in operational performance and the efforts of employees across various sites, from the fields to the ports and oil and gas pipelines.
The NOC expressed its appreciation for the efforts of Sirte Oil Company’s teams, praising the role of the company’s management and employees in achieving this progress. The corporation stressed that these steps represent a qualitative addition to the oil and gas sector in Libya and reinforce its efforts to increase production rates and implement its strategic plans aimed at developing the oil industry and achieving sustainability in this vital sector.
The successful restart of the methanol plant demonstrates Libya’s continued recovery and rehabilitation of its industrial infrastructure, which has faced numerous challenges over the past decade. The resumption of operations is expected to contribute to the diversification of the country’s hydrocarbon sector beyond crude oil production.
