335 MW Power Station Begins Critical LNG Conversion to Boost Energy Security
In a decisive move toward cleaner energy, Senegal has officially commenced the conversion of its 335 MW Bel Air power plant in Dakar from heavy fuel oil to liquefied natural gas (LNG). The ambitious project, spearheaded by national utility Senelec in partnership with Finnish firm Wärtsilä, kicked off on May 13 and is slated for completion by the end of 2025.
This transformative initiative will unfold in two strategic phases: the first involves upgrading the plant’s engines to accommodate LNG, while the second phase will finalize the transition to gas as the primary fuel source.
