Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC) has announced a major breakthrough in gas supplies to power stations, achieving record flow rates not seen in over a decade as the country braces for peak summer electricity demand.
In a statement released today, the NOC revealed that its subsidiary Sirte Oil Company has successfully completed critical repairs on more than 120 sections of the pipeline network between Brega and Sidra. The maintenance work has boosted gas flow through the Brega-Misrata pipeline to between 130 and 150 million cubic feet daily – the highest level in over ten years.
Energy officials expect the significant improvement in gas pressure to substantially enhance the capacity of key power plants, particularly in Misrata, easing the burden on other facilities in Al-Khums, Tripoli, and Zawiya regions that have struggled during previous summer peaks.
Meanwhile, Mellitah Oil & Gas continues electronic survey operations on the crucial offshore pipeline connecting the Sabratha platform to the Mellitah Complex. This operation, coordinated with the General Electricity Company and the Libyan Iron and Steel Company, has temporarily reduced output to ensure worker safety during the maintenance and inspection process.
The comprehensive pipeline rehabilitation program represents a critical step in Libya’s efforts to stabilize its fragile power infrastructure ahead of the high-demand summer months.
