Reconnaissance Energy Africa (ReconAfrica) is gearing up to drill one of its biggest oil and gas prospects yet—Prospect I, located onshore Namibia in the prolific Damara Fold Belt.
With eyes on 365 million barrels of unrisked oil and 1.9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, Prospect I is seen as a game-changer for Namibia’s energy future. ReconAfrica holds a 100% working interest in the site, described as their largest drilling target to date.
“Our team is on track and ready to spud the well this quarter,” said CEO Brian Reinsborough. “Following the Naingopo exploration success earlier this year, we’re confident in the resource potential of the Otavi formations.”
Drilling plans include reaching depths of 3,800 metres, with even deeper possibilities based on geological insights from prior wells. The Otavi carbonate reservoirs, previously showing over 50 metres of quality rock with oil shows, are once again the prime focus.
