The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has confirmed that the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) is fully operational following extensive rehabilitation efforts.
NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, made this statement on Wednesday, emphasizing that the refinery continues to produce refined petroleum products that meet industry specifications.
“The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) wishes to clarify that despite a minor incident at a section of the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) earlier today, the plant remains operational and continues to produce on-spec refined petroleum products,” Soneye stated.
NNPC also dismissed reports of an explosion at the facility, clarifying that the event was merely a flare incident that was quickly contained.
The refinery, which resumed production in November 2024 following a long rehabilitation period, began truck-loading petroleum products on November 26, 2024.
