$1.5 billion Mozambique-Zambia pipeline deal promises economic transformation
A game-changing $1.5 billion pipeline agreement between Mozambique and Zambia is set to dramatically reshape the energy landscape across southern Africa. Announced today by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo at the opening of the prestigious 11th Mozambique Mining and Energy Conference (MMEC), the landmark infrastructure project will create a vital energy artery connecting Mozambique’s coastal port of Beira to Zambia’s industrial hub of Ndola.
“The pipeline will allow the transport of petroleum products to the Zambian market, reducing the circulation of trucks on the roads,” declared President Chapo to attendees at the high-profile industry gathering. The massive project will feature a 3.5 million metric ton annual capacity and includes construction of strategic storage infrastructure in both terminal cities.
The formal agreement signing, scheduled for today on the conference sidelines, represents a crowning achievement in regional cooperation and stands to significantly enhance landlocked Zambia’s energy security while creating a lucrative new export corridor for Mozambique.
“These milestones reflect not only the robustness of our reserves, but above all the environment of credibility, security and reform that we are consolidating in attracting the private sector to boost our economy,” President Chapo added.
