Perenco Launches Revolutionary $200 Million Recycled Platform Project Off Congo Coast
Anglo-French oil giant Perenco is pioneering sustainable offshore operations with a groundbreaking $200 million project that transforms a recycled mobile offshore production unit for deployment off Congo’s coast. The converted platform, dubbed Kombi 2, represents a revolutionary approach to environmentally conscious resource development.
Construction is currently racing ahead at Dixstone’s Nieuwdorp shipyard in the Netherlands, with the unit scheduled to depart in October 2025 and become fully operational in Pointe-Noire by early 2026. The transformation project recently received a high-profile visit from Congo’s Minister of Hydrocarbons, Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua, underlining the strategic national importance of this initiative.
Once installed on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II permit, the recycled platform will deliver approximately 7 million cubic feet of gas daily while unlocking an additional 10 million barrels of reserves through existing well optimization. This project demonstrates how the industry can maximize resource utilization while dramatically reducing environmental impact through innovative recycling approaches.
