Perenco Invests $200 Million in New Congo Platform to Drive 500,000 BOEPD Target
Anglo-French independent operator Perenco is constructing a major new offshore oil and gas platform as part of a substantial investment to boost hydrocarbon production in the Republic of Congo.
The project, named Kombi 2, is currently under construction at the Nieuwdorp shipyard in the Netherlands and is designed to unlock up to 20 million barrels of oil reserves through enhanced surface treatment and new well drilling. The platform will also recover approximately 7 million cubic feet of gas per day and generate electricity using two gas turbines connected to a 33 kV system.
The facility represents a total investment of over $200 million, led by Perenco Congo with support from partners including the Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), AOGC, and Petrocongo. Construction is being handled by Dixstone, which is part of the Perenco group.
The platform is scheduled to depart the Netherlands in October 2025 and become operational in Pointe-Noire in early 2026. It will be installed on the Kombi-Likalala-Libondo II (KLL II) permit and could significantly advance the Congolese government’s ambitious goal of increasing national oil output to 500,000 Barrels of Oil Equivalent Per Day (BOEPD) by 2030.
Currently, Congo Brazzaville produces 270,000 BOPD according to the latest OPEC Monthly Oil Market Report. Perenco, which has operated in Congo’s upstream sector since 2001, currently produces 75,000 barrels of oil and gas per day in the country as of 2024.
