Nigeria’s Vice President Calls on Global Energy Giant Vitol to Rescue $25 Billion Atlantic Gas Pipeline
Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima has made an urgent appeal to multinational energy powerhouse Vitol, seeking immediate financial and technical support for the massive $25 billion Atlantic Africa Gas Pipeline (AAGP) project.
“I sincerely invite you to join us in making this project a success,” Shettima declared in what appears to be a critical juncture for the ambitious pipeline initiative. “We need your expertise more than your money,” he emphasized, highlighting the project’s desperate need for Vitol’s vast logistical network and international connections.
The AAGP project, designed to tap into Europe’s enormous energy demand, has become a cornerstone of Africa’s gas monetization strategy. Jeffrey Dellapina, Vitol’s chief financial officer, confirmed the company’s interest, stating that “Nigeria has been a close and crucial partner for Vitol” and expressing desire to “continue growing alongside it.”
This development comes as the AAGP sits at the top of both African Union and European Union energy agendas, with Vitol’s potential involvement expected to attract additional global investors to the game-changing project.
