Nigeria Pioneers Clean Energy Transformation with First North-East Gas Hub
Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone in its energy diversification journey with the inauguration of the country’s first Liquefied to Compressed Natural Gas facility in Yola, Adamawa State. The groundbreaking project, developed through a partnership between the federal government and Greenville LNG, represents a $1 billion investment commitment that signals a major shift toward cleaner energy alternatives.
Minister of State Petroleum Resources Ekperikpe Ekpo described the facility as “a beacon of hope and opportunity” for the North-East region, which has historically faced significant infrastructural challenges. The LCNG model provides an integrated solution for powering vehicles and industrial equipment with both LNG and CNG, offering cleaner and more affordable alternatives to diesel and petrol.
Greenville LNG has announced ambitious expansion plans, targeting 50 stations nationwide by 2026 to enhance Nigeria’s gas infrastructure and energy security. The project aligns perfectly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s “Decade of Gas” agenda, designed to harness Nigeria’s vast natural gas resources for economic transformation and industrialization.
Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri praised the federal government’s intervention, noting that the state has witnessed the real impact of climate change and strongly supports projects focused on environmental protection and providing citizens with clean, healthy air.
