The committee overseeing the proposed Nigeria–Niger–Libya natural gas pipeline met at the weekend to advance key technical and coordination milestones, as the three countries move to transform a long-discussed concept into a concrete infrastructure project capable of channelling African gas to European markets.
Discussions focused on reviewing and analysing preliminary engineering studies and concepts, and on developing a Memorandum of Understanding with Nigeria. The meeting also examined executive steps needed to activate the pipeline project, which aims to transport natural gas from Nigeria’s fields northward through Niger and into Libya, before export onward to Europe.
Libya’s Ministry of Oil and Gas confirmed the meeting as part of the committee’s ongoing work to assess technical feasibility and strengthen coordination among all parties. The pipeline concept has its roots in a September 2024 agreement between Libya and Nigeria to prepare an MoU covering technical and economic feasibility studies. Earlier discussions had focused on bilateral cooperation in natural gas projects and the joint role of both countries in supporting global energy security.
