The Nigerian government is intensifying efforts to boost domestic oil production through renewed exploration activities in the Kolmani areas of Bauchi and Gombe states, according to Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Senator Lokpobiri Heineken.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent site of Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri, the minister revealed that upon taking office, he discovered the Kolmani oil licenses had expired, promptly securing presidential approval for their renewal. “What we want to see is to ensure that the Kolmani region too, also contributes to our own barrels,” Lokpobiri stated.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed, acknowledged significant federal support for the academy’s development, including N17 billion approved under the previous administration and released by President Tinubu’s government. The governor disclosed that N6 billion from these funds would be allocated to constructing the academy, which has already recruited 43 non-teaching staff to support operations at its temporary site at Abubakar Tatari Polytechnic.
