Namibia’s Petroleum Commissioner Maggy Shino has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to producing its first oil by 2030. Speaking at the Namibia International Energy Conference in Windhoek on April 23, Shino outlined the significant progress made over the past year and detailed ongoing campaigns to transform recent discoveries into production-ready projects.
“We are moving from exploration to production through strategic projects with global partners, ensuring recent discoveries are developed sustainably and aligned with our long-term vision,” Shino told conference attendees.
The TotalEnergies-led Venus project remains central to these efforts, with a Final Investment Decision anticipated by 2026. Meanwhile, exploration continues across other key blocks including the onshore Damara Fold Belt, where ReconAfrica is preparing to test the Naingopo well.
Shino noted that while much attention has focused on the Orange Basin, its geological characteristics extend across Namibia’s entire offshore region. She highlighted confirmed gas resources in Block 1811 and ongoing activities by multiple companies, including Elephant Oil analyzing seismic data in PEL 1010, ExxonMobil conducting technical work in the Namibe Basin, and Galp and NAMCOR drilling additional wells to test the Mopane prospects.
Chevron is also preparing to launch a well testing campaign in PEL 90 in 2026, further enhancing exploration across the region.
