The largest flow of African migrants trying to escape to a better life in Europe is attempting to do so via one country: Libya. Although some arrive by choice, others come by force, and Libya is now described as a “purgatory” where migrants face appalling conditions, sexual abuse, torture and becoming the victims of human traffickers, before facing the deadliest stretch of the Mediterranean Sea.
