Libya Embraces Digital Revolution in Oil & Gas Sector with AI-Powered Smart Oilfield Technology

Libya is spearheading a comprehensive digital transformation across its oil and gas sector, implementing artificial intelligence-enhanced exploration systems and smart oilfield technologies as the country prepares for the Libya Energy & Economic Summit 2026.
The North African nation is rapidly modernizing its upstream and midstream operations through advanced technologies including remote monitoring systems, gas lift automation, and AI-powered exploration capabilities. The Libyan Council for Oil, Gas & Renewable Energy is prioritizing substantial investments in modern infrastructure across the entire value chain while promoting innovation and research to enhance energy efficiency.
Leading the digital revolution, oilfield services company SLB has integrated electric submersible pump performance tools with AI-powered video analytics, achieving remarkable results including over 90% reduction in well-site visits while enhancing production efficiency and security protocols. The company maintains drilling contracts for wells in the Nesr and Al Waha fields, as well as operations in Libya’s southwest region.
Libyan service company AOSCO Oilfield Services, partnering with Sirte Oil Company under the National Oil Corporation’s oversight, has successfully launched a revolutionary digital gas lift well monitoring and control system. This cutting-edge technology enables continuous observation of critical parameters including pressure, flow rates, and production data, supporting real-time operational decision-making while minimizing manual errors and equipment downtime.
The National Oil Corporation is actively exploring AI and machine learning applications to transform hydrocarbon exploration processes. In collaboration with the Arabian Gulf Oil Company, plans are underway to implement AI-driven seismic data processing, accelerating exploration timelines while increasing resource discovery accuracy and reducing operational costs.
Internet service provider Rawafed Libya has partnered with satellite telecommunications leader Inmarsat to deliver comprehensive satellite-based data services to oil and gas operators throughout Libya, enabling real-time infrastructure monitoring in remote locations and supporting enhanced operational efficiency and asset management protocols.
