Indonesia plans to dramatically reduce crude oil and LPG imports from Nigeria as part of a massive $10 billion energy deal with the United States. Energy Minister Bahlil Lahadalia announced the strategic shift as Indonesia seeks to eliminate its trade surplus with the US and avoid threatened 32% tariffs on exports. The move could significantly impact Nigeria, which ranks among Indonesia’s top three crude suppliers alongside Saudi Arabia and Angola. Indonesia imported 306,000 barrels of crude daily last year, with only 13,000 bpd coming from the US – a figure now set to rise substantially. The plan involves increasing both crude and LPG imports from America, potentially reshaping regional energy trade patterns as Indonesia works to meet an $18-19 billion US goods purchasing target.
