Ladies have been adviced to check their breasts regularly for breast cancer.

An official of the Islamic Medical Association of Nigeria (IMAN), Plateau State chapter, doctor Maryam J. Adamu, gave the advise at a one-day free lectures and medical check on breasts and cervical cancer, held at the Jos central Mosque.

The outreach was organised by IMAN  in collaboartion with Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN).

Dr. Maryam said: “We deemed it important to make the outreach, so as to enlighten our people, on the danger of both the breast cancer and cervical cancer.”

She said breasts cancer had killed many women, because they did not know it.

“But with awareness campaign and outreaches many are now getting to know of it, and how to take care of it,” she added.

Dr. Mayram said with support from government, groups and individulas IMAN can do better than want is now obtainable.

“We have targeted to offer free tests to at least 200 participants, but you can see that more than 200 are already here,” she said.

The Plateau state chairman person of Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Doctor Anna Gyang, expressed concerned that breast and cervical cancers are spreading amongst young ladies in the state.

“With the awareness campaign, we are hopeful that from today every woman can be able to check her breasts by herself, after every monthly menstruation,” she said.

Dr. Anna, said it is worrisome that 300,000 women are die annually in the world with the disease increasing in Plateau state and Nigeria.

“We have noticed that young ladies between the ages of; 17 to 19-year, are getting affected by breasts cancer,” she said.

Some of the beneficiaries expressed happiness over the gestures. 

Khadija Umar said, “I was tested and have known my status. I have been trying to get tested to no avail but today I was tested free of charge,” she said.
