Renewable energy firm HyIron has successfully produced its first batch of green hydrogen at the HyIron Oshivela plant in Namibia. The 12 MW electrolyzer, brought online in March 2025, operates within a smart micro-grid to generate emissions-free hydrogen.

This pioneering project, the first of its kind in Namibia, is expected to produce 15,000 tons of Direct Reduced Iron per year in its initial phase, with potential expansion to one million tons annually. Over 60 Namibian Small and Medium Enterprises contributed expertise to the project, which aligns with national goals for sustainable industrial growth.
