French Renewable Producer Akuo Signs Major Solar Deal with South African Chemicals Giant
French renewable power producer Akuo has secured a significant 15-year virtual power purchase agreement to deliver 91 MW of solar power to Sasol International Chemicals, a unit of South Africa-based chemicals and energy company Sasol.
The contract, set to commence in the second half of 2026, will deliver 250,000 MWh of clean electricity annually from the 195-MW Tennyson solar farm in Coke County, Texas. This volume will cover approximately 50% of the annual electricity consumption at Sasol’s Lake Charles Chemicals Complex.
Todd Hancock, vice president of US operations at Sasol International Chemicals, emphasized that increased renewable energy use is a key strategy for reducing carbon intensity and meeting the company’s goal of cutting scope 1 and scope 2 emissions by 30% by 2030.
The Tennyson project marks Akuo’s first solar asset in the United States and represents the company’s expanding presence in the American renewable energy market.
