The Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) offshore project, operated by BP, has reached a key milestone as the floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel Gimi, owned by Golar LNG Limited, received its first feed gas from the development site located between Mauritania and Senegal.

The FLNG Gimi is operating under a 20-year Lease and Operate Agreement between BP and Golar LNG for the GTA field.

This marks a crucial step toward full commissioning of the FLNG unit. Previously, commissioning efforts relied on gas supplied from the LNG carrier British Sponsor. With this milestone achieved, the first LNG export cargo is expected within the first quarter of 2025, while full commercial operations are projected to commence in the second quarter of the year, pending fulfillment of all operational requirements.

A significant share of the gas output will be allocated to meet the increasing energy needs of Mauritania and Senegal.
