Italian energy giant advances strategic projects amid challenging environment

Italian energy powerhouse Eni is pushing forward with three key gas projects in Libya designed to boost production, cut carbon emissions, and develop local technical capabilities. During high-level talks with Abdul Hamid Mohammed Dbeibeh, Prime Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi confirmed the Sabratha Compression Project remains on schedule for completion by year-end 2025.

The compression initiative will enhance output from the existing Bahr Essalam gas field, while Eni simultaneously advances the Bouri Gas Utilisation Project targeting 2026 production. The company has also commenced drilling on the promising Structure A&E project as of April 2025.

The strategic meeting provided an opportunity for evaluating Eni’s ongoing exploration initiatives across Libya and exploring potential investment opportunities emerging from the country’s newly launched oil and gas licensing round.
