Collaboration Could Accelerate Sustainable Energy Access Across Multiple Markets

Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) and Sahara Group are exploring a potentially transformative collaboration aimed at dramatically expanding energy access and creating a more sustainable energy future for Nigeria and beyond.

This strategic initiative took center stage during a high-profile meeting in Abuja where Sahara Group’s executive leadership team—including Executive Directors Moroti Adedoyin-Adeyinka, Dr. Kola Adesina, Tope Shonubi, and Wal Ajibade—met with NNPC’s recently appointed Group CEO, Bayo Ojulari.

Ojulari, who has been tasked with transforming NNPC into a global energy powerhouse, emphasized that future success would be built on collaboration, innovation, and value creation. The Sahara Group delegation responded by affirming their commitment to supporting the transformation of Nigeria’s energy sector through their extensive operations spanning Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

The discussions explored potential synergies between the two energy giants across multiple sectors—from traditional oil and gas to cutting-edge data technologies and infrastructure development. Both organizations identified transparent, impact-driven partnerships as the key to powering a more sustainable energy future for Nigeria and neighboring markets.

Sahara Group brings considerable expertise as a global promoter of clean and safe energy solutions, with operations spanning the entire energy value chain from upstream and midstream to downstream, power generation, infrastructure development, and technological innovation. NNPC, as Nigeria’s national oil company, controls vast hydrocarbon resources and infrastructure essential to the country’s energy security and economic development.

Industry analysts note that a formal partnership between these energy heavyweights could accelerate Nigeria’s energy transition while addressing persistent energy access challenges that have hampered economic growth. The collaboration comes at a critical juncture as Nigeria seeks to balance development of its substantial fossil fuel resources with commitments to cleaner energy pathways.
