At the conclusion of his participation in Abu Dhabi, Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held strategic meetings with executives from U.S. Bechtel Corporation, China’s United Energy Group (UEG), Norwegian Subsea7, and U.S. S&P Global. The discussions focused on strengthening existing partnerships and exploring new opportunities in oil, gas, and energy transition projects.

Minister Badawi met with Paul Marsden, President of Bechtel Corporation, to review the progress of joint cooperation in several new refining projects, as well as the successful launch of Egypt’s first specialized school for safety and risk management in Ain Sokhna. Badawi praised Bechtel’s efforts in supporting safety programs across the petroleum sector and expressed his interest to replicate the safety school model in other regions, while continuing cooperation with ENPPI and PETROJET both domestically and internationally.

During his meeting with Song Yu, Chairman and Executive Director of United Energy Group, Badawi emphasized the importance of intensifying development and production activities in the company’s Western Desert concessions, including Borg El Arab and Abu Sennan. He urged the company to push its exploration programs across its current and new blocks through the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG).

In another meeting, Badawi discussed with John Evans, CEO of Subsea7, strengthening cooperation in executing engineering and construction works at offshore oil and gas fields. The minister highlighted the petroleum sector’s ongoing expansion in natural gas exploration and its efforts to develop discovered wells. Both sides agreed to expand cooperation into low-carbon solutions and energy transition projects, specifically hydrogen, as well as occupational safety and energy efficiency.

Badawi concluded his meetings with a discussion with Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of S&P Global, focusing on the future growth prospects of Egypt’s energy sector. Badawi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to intensify exploration and maximize the use of its LNG infrastructure to deliver greater value from hydrocarbon resources. He highlighted the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) portal as a digital transformation model that reduces investment risks and attracts capital by digitizing geological data. Both parties agreed to explore potential collaboration in data analytics, evaluation studies, and consulting in energy and minerals forecasting.
