The Egyptian Awqaf Ministry, in charge of religious endowments, has warned again against the non-adherence to the closure of mosques due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Egypt had given a clear-cut instructions to shut all mosques and the suspension of congressional prayers as a precautionary measure.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ministry stressed that any person who violates these measures would be held accountable, making it clear that the current circumstance does not tolerate any degree of neglect.
The ministry also warned of deliberately opening the mosque for anyone to enter into it, emphasising that it would fire any Imam who violate this instructions.
Some coronavirus cases around the world have been linked to religious gatherings.
However, the Azans and Muezzins are allowed while the prayers are permitted inside houses until further notice.
The country’s health ministry also announced on Monday night 149 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths related to the virus.
The announcement marked the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases recorded in a single day since the start of the outbreak in Egypt.
The ministry also confirmed that all detected cases had either been in contact with other positive cases or had recently returned from abroad.
Egyptians living abroad wishing to return to Egypt are required to be quarantined in hotels designated by the government.
Meanwhile, the number of people who have now tested negative for COVID-19 has reached 396 while 259 people have fully recovered.
